Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against Roblox on Thursday, alleging the gaming giant deceived parents regarding platform risks and failed to protect minors from predators.
Allegations of Prioritizing Profit Over Protection
In a formal statement, Paxton accused the company of prioritizing the interests of what he termed “pixel pedophiles” over the safety of children, describing the platform as a “breeding ground for predators.”
“We cannot allow platforms like Roblox to continue operating as digital playgrounds for predators,” Paxton said. “Roblox must do more to protect kids from sick and twisted freaks hiding behind a screen. Any corporation that enables child abuse will face the full and unrelenting force of the law.”
A Growing Legal Pattern
This legal action follows similar litigation launched by attorneys general in Louisiana and Kentucky, alongside ongoing cases in California, Texas, and Pennsylvania. The platform has come under fire repeatedly for failing to implement robust child safety measures, leaving minors vulnerable to grooming, explicit content, and violent material.
Global regulatory pressure is mounting, with jurisdictions implementing stricter age-verification mandates. Examples include the U.K.’s Online Safety Act and Mississippi’s age-assurance law, while states such as Arizona, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Virginia are actively considering similar legislative frameworks.
Roblox’s Safety Infrastructure
In response to previous scrutiny, Roblox has deployed several safety features. These include an age-estimation system that analyzes facial features from selfies, standardized content and maturity labels, and an AI system designed to detect early signals of child endangerment. The platform also maintains parental controls, communication restrictions, and automated tools to identify rule-breaking behavior.
As of September 30, 2025, Roblox reported 151.5 million daily active users.
Company Response to Litigation
Roblox issued a statement expressing disappointment regarding the lawsuit, arguing that the Attorney General chose litigation over collaborative problem-solving. The company dismissed the claims as “misrepresentations” and “sensationalized.”
“Roblox is deeply committed to child safety. Our policies are purposefully stricter than those found on many other platforms. We prohibit the sharing of images and videos in chat, use filters designed to block the exchange of personal information and our trained teams and automated tools continuously monitor communications to detect and remove harmful content,” a spokesperson stated.
