Nintendo officially announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 will hit the market on June 5, priced at $450, bringing a suite of new hardware features, a revamped online service, and an expansive library of launch titles.
Innovative Joy-Cons and New Functionality
The redesigned Joy-Cons will now function similarly to a computer mouse for compatible titles. By leveraging advanced gyroscope technology, players can expect significantly enhanced precision in motion-controlled gameplay.
To assist users in mastering these new mechanics, Nintendo is introducing a “Welcome Tour” game. While this tutorial experience will come at a cost, the company suggests users might prefer directing those funds toward the highly anticipated Mario Kart World.
Furthermore, the Nintendo Online subscription is expanding its library to include classic GameCube titles. Players can look forward to ports such as Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Super Mario Strikers, Luigi’s Mansion, and Pokémon XD, joining the existing Nintendo 64 and Game Boy catalogs. To support this, Nintendo is releasing a remade GameCube controller, which notably includes a dedicated C button.

What is the C button on the Nintendo Switch 2?
The mysterious C button featured on the new Joy-Cons is “GameChat,” a built-in communication tool. The system uses an integrated microphone to pick up player voices, even in noisy environments. The console also supports screen sharing, allowing friends to view each other’s gameplay in real-time, regardless of the title being played.
The right Joy-Con includes a secondary C button dedicated to chat management, such as quick-muting the microphone. While GameChat will be free for all users until March 31, 2026, it will eventually require a paid online membership. Nintendo also confirmed that parental controls will be integrated into the chat feature, though specific details remain limited.
What hardware launches with the Nintendo Switch 2?
Nintendo is introducing a new attachable camera that overlays the player’s face onto the game screen—a feature designed to complement GameChat. Demonstrated with Mario Party, players’ faces appear in speech bubbles next to their characters, reacting to in-game events. This feature will be backward-compatible with select titles, including Mario Party Jamboree. Additionally, a new Pro Controller featuring the C button will be available at launch.

Which games will be available for Nintendo Switch 2?
The flagship title Mario Kart World launches alongside the console, offering an open-world interpretation of the franchise. Players can explore vast regions and courses in a free-drive mode, both in single-player and multiplayer, without the usual interference of competitive hazards.
The Switch 2 will boast a robust third-party catalog, including Hades II, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, Street Fighter, EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3+4, Yakuza 0, Borderlands 4, Enter the Gungeon 2, Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, and a Final Fantasy VII remake. Additionally, chapters 3 and 4 of Deltarune will be available on day one.
Other highlights include Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment (a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom arriving this winter), a remake of the classic Kirby Air Ride titled Kirby AirRiders (2025), and Donkey Kong Bananza, launching July 17, 2025. FromSoftware is also developing The Duskbloods, an exclusive title slated for 2026.
Finally, Nintendo will offer paid upgrades for existing Switch titles to leverage the hardware of the Switch 2. Affected games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokémon Legends Z-A, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Mario Party Jamboree.
