Latitude, the startup behind the viral hit AI Dungeon, has officially unveiled Voyage, a new platform that empowers users to build and play fully immersive, AI-driven role-playing games (RPGs) without the need for traditional scripting.
Design Your Own Infinite Worlds
Voyage transforms players into game designers by allowing them to construct detailed gaming environments from scratch. Users can define specific settings, including cities, regions, landmarks, and overarching narratives, while also establishing core game mechanics like leveling systems, combat challenges, and unique character abilities.
The platform handles the technical heavy lifting; for instance, if you envision a fishing village plagued by a sea monster, the integrated AI generates the necessary code to manifest that scenario. Once created, these worlds can be shared with the broader community.

Unscripted Interactions and Dynamic Gameplay
Voyage offers a text-based experience where players narrate their character’s actions, with optional audio narration available. Unlike traditional RPGs confined by rigid dialogue trees, Voyage allows for complete creative freedom. Players can choose to fight a goblin, or attempt to become a “goblin therapist” to resolve conflicts peacefully.
The AI interprets these inputs to generate unique narrative outcomes. The system tracks character progression through skills and randomized dice-roll mechanics, allowing players to unlock special abilities—many of which are inspired by classic Dungeons & Dragons spells—as they defeat bosses or complete quests.
The Power of the World Engine
At the heart of the platform is Latitude’s “World Engine,” a system five years in the making. This architecture utilizes multiple AI models to manage gameplay, track object and character states, and maintain long-term memory of backstories and relationships.
“Characters aren’t just reactions to you, but have their own personality backstory, that react to you in ways that feel like real, and that’s really part of the magic of the engine,” says Nick Walton, CEO and co-founder of Latitude.

Scaling Beyond AI Dungeon
While AI Dungeon (launched in 2019) introduced the world to generative AI gaming, Walton notes that Voyage represents a significant evolution. “Voyage takes that core concept and blows it up 10x farther… and solves all the problems that I think AI Dungeon alone couldn’t fully get to,” he explains.
The platform is currently in expanded beta, with an open beta release planned for later this year. Early metrics show strong engagement, with testers interacting with over 160,000 unique AI characters.

Strategic Partnerships and Monetization
Latitude is also collaborating with Google’s AI Futures Fund, integrating models like Gemini Flash for image generation and Gemma for text, audio, and video processing. The company has also secured backing from high-profile investors, including former Roblox CBO Craig Donato, Album VC, Griffin Gaming Partners, Midjourney, and NFX.
While Voyage is free-to-play, a subscription model will be introduced with tiers at $15, $30, and $50, offering premium AI features and expanded action limits. To ensure safety, the platform includes parental controls and filters for mature content, similar to standards found on platforms like Steam.
