Ubisoft officially dismissed a viral screenshot of its upcoming multiplayer title, Assassin’s Creed Invictus, labeling the image as heavily manipulated by AI and warning against the spread of misinformation.

The Developer Strikes Back Against Fake Leaks

The controversy began when YouTuber xJ0nathan shared an image on X (formerly Twitter) purported to be an early look at the highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed multiplayer project. The official Assassin’s Creed account quickly intervened, replying with a blunt “Nice try.”

The studio clarified that while the original source material may have originated from a private internal test, the leaked version had been significantly altered, likely through artificial intelligence. Ubisoft seized the moment to address the community directly, stating, “Not great to spread misinformation,” and promised to share authentic updates regarding the project when the development team is ready.

Ongoing Credibility Issues with the Leak

Following Ubisoft’s rebuttal, xJ0nathan attempted to double down by posting a second image, claiming it was the authentic, unedited version. However, the community was quick to scrutinize the claim, noting several visual inconsistencies between the two images that cast further doubt on the validity of the supposed “real deal.”

What This Means for Codename Invictus

While Ubisoft’s response serves as a firm debunking of the fake image, it paradoxically confirms that internal assets for Invictus do exist and are currently circulating within private testing environments. This acknowledgment is particularly significant given recent industry speculation surrounding the project’s future.

Reports surfaced over the weekend—initially fueled by the same leaker and later expanded upon by Insider Gaming—suggesting that recent playtests for the title had performed poorly, leading to rumors of a potential cancellation. By explicitly stating that they will provide more information “when the time is right,” Ubisoft’s communication suggests that the project remains active, effectively cooling down the premature cancellation narrative.

As the studio continues to refine the experience, fans remain eager for official details on how the game will integrate classic mechanics, especially following recent confirmation that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will feature the return of “social stealth,” even if hidden blade combat is not part of that specific experience.
