Supergiant Games Hints at Post-Hades 2 Project

Supergiant Games has officially begun recruitment for its next major title following the release of Hades 2, sparking a fierce debate among fans over whether the studio should pursue a third installment in the roguelike franchise or return to its roots.

The Search for What Comes Next

The acclaimed indie developer recently posted a job opening for a graphics and animation engineer, explicitly inviting candidates to “come build what’s next after Hades 2.” This marks the first official confirmation that the studio has shifted its focus toward a new project following the successful 1.0 launch of the sequel and its subsequent expansion to Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

When Hades 2 reached its full release last year, the studio remained non-committal about its future trajectory. In a September 2025 blog post, the team noted that beyond patches and porting efforts, it was “too early to say what’s next” and that they intended to take time to “reflect and recharge” before deciding on their next creative endeavor.

A Divided Fanbase

While the studio’s internal plans appear to be taking shape, the community is deeply split on what that future should look like. On social media, some players have explicitly voiced a desire for a departure from the roguelike genre, urging Supergiant to revisit the style of their earlier titles like Transistor and Pyre. “Please NOT Hades 3,” one user pleaded, reflecting a sentiment that the studio’s talent might be better served by exploring new mechanics.

Conversely, other fans are clamoring for a continuation of the underworld saga. Some have even suggested a potential focus on Macaria—a obscure mythological figure often cited as Hades’ daughter—as a perfect candidate for a “Hades 3” protagonist. Given Supergiant’s reputation for creative mythological remixes, the idea of a character largely scrubbed from historical records resonates with many.

Speculation and Studio Philosophy

The rumor mill is currently churning with diverse theories, ranging from a co-op title featuring Zagreus and Melinoe to a prequel centered on the Titan War, and even, quite humorously, a kart racer.

Despite the high demand for a trilogy, studio director Amir Rao emphasized just days before the launch of Hades 2 that a third game was never a “preordained” inevitability. “It’s not something we secretly know right now or anything like that,” Rao stated, clarifying that the team avoids viewing future sequels as guaranteed outcomes.

Ultimately, the leadership at Supergiant has maintained that their primary objective remains creating experiences that leave a lasting impact, prioritizing projects that “don’t get forgotten right away” over the necessity of franchise expansion.
