Subnautica 2 is forcing a major shift in the gaming calendar, causing a chain reaction that has pushed two competing titles to reschedule their launch dates to avoid being overshadowed by the highly anticipated Early Access release.

The Outbound Rescheduling
Earlier this week, the developers behind the open-world survival game Outbound announced they are moving their release date from May 14 to May 11 on PC and Xbox. Despite boasting over a million Steam Wishlists, the team opted to shift their launch to dodge the impending tidal wave of attention surrounding Subnautica 2.
The Domino Effect Hits Farm to Table
This strategic move created an unexpected conflict for Farm to Table, a restaurant management simulator featuring base-building and farming mechanics, which had already claimed the May 11 slot.
“Followed by Subnautica 2’s recent date reveal, Outbound recently announced its new release date, which now falls exactly on our planned Early Access launch date,” the solo developer of Farm to Table stated on social media. “We’re genuinely excited for both games, but we also want our players to have a more relaxed launch experience and enjoy Farm to Table without feeling rushed between big releases.”
In response to the shift, the developer decided to open the game’s virtual restaurant doors slightly earlier, moving the launch to May 9 to ensure breathing room.
Mirroring the Silksong Phenomenon
The situation mirrors the impact of Hollow Knight: Silksong, which previously forced at least eight games to shift their release windows due to its status as the most-wishlisted game on Steam. Subnautica 2 appears to be following this trend, currently holding the title of Steam’s most-wishlisted game since the highly anticipated Metroidvania.
Meanwhile, the development team behind Subnautica 2 recently clarified their stance on development tools, confirming they will not be utilizing generative AI despite their parent company Krafton’s “AI first” strategy. The team noted, “It’s interesting technology, but it’s not something we’re using.”
