Assassin’s Creed 1 Remake Reportedly in Development

Industry insiders suggest that Ubisoft is developing a remake of the original Assassin’s Creed, following the recent announcement of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

Leaked Reports Point to Altaïr’s Return

Despite Ubisoft finally pulling back the curtain on Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the rumor mill surrounding the franchise shows no signs of slowing down. Reports now indicate that the original title that launched the series is the next project in line for the remake treatment.

The speculation gained traction following the latest Insider Gaming Weekly podcast. During the episode, Insider Gaming co-founder Tom Henderson stated that “there is another Assassin’s Creed remake in the works, one of the earlier ones.” While Henderson remained vague on the specific title, prominent content creator j0nathan—who has a track record of accurate leaks, including the naming of Valhalla’s Dawn of Ragnarök DLC—has explicitly pointed to the original Assassin’s Creed as the project in question.

Ubisoft’s Hint at Multiple Remakes

While these claims should be treated as rumors until officially confirmed, the possibility of additional remakes aligns with previous comments from leadership. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot hinted at such plans back in 2024, specifically noting that “players can be excited about some remakes”—a plural phrasing that suggests Black Flag Resynced is not a standalone effort.

J0nathan claims his information regarding this secondary project originated from a contact in 2023, which aligns with the timeline of Ubisoft’s internal development cycles.

Is the 20th Anniversary the Catalyst?

Determining whether the first game is truly next is difficult, as Ubisoft’s decision to prioritize a Black Flag remake proves they are not necessarily adhering to the original release order. However, the timing remains compelling: the original Assassin’s Creed approaches its 20th anniversary next year. Revitalizing the game that started the entire franchise would serve as a significant milestone for the series.

The gaming community now waits to see if Ubisoft can manage the development process more quietly than they did with the heavily leaked Black Flag Resynced. If the current reports hold any weight, the cycle of speculation appears to be repeating itself.

In related news, the lead writer for Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag recently revealed that he penned two new scenes for the Resynced version, noting that one of them has already become a personal favorite.
