Arc Raiders Update: Weapon Repairs Get Easier, Durability Harder

The latest Arc Raiders “Riven Tides” update has arrived, introducing a major overhaul to weapon mechanics that has left the community divided. While developer Embark Studios has finally implemented a long-requested repair feature for upgraded gear, they have simultaneously increased weapon degradation rates, sparking a heated debate over the game’s new economic balance.

A Mixed Bag of Gameplay Adjustments

Beyond the controversial durability changes, the Riven Tides patch introduces a new beachside map and the Arc Turbine, alongside significant balancing tweaks. Embark is currently refining the game’s Augments, acknowledging that many Combat Augments are underperforming. The team plans a future balancing pass to ensure all categories become viable, with a specific focus on buffing the Combat Mk. 3 (Flanking) Augment.

Other immediate changes include a nerf to “Trigger ‘Nade spam,” preventing players from deploying new grenades while others are active. Furthermore, the Photoelectric Cloak has been hit with increased weight and a significantly higher power consumption rate—jumping from 2.5/s to 10/s—to force more strategic decision-making during encounters.

Buffs for Bettina and Ammo Economy

Fans of the Bettina assault rifle have reason to celebrate. The weapon has received a damage boost and increased Arc armor damage, though this is balanced by a slower fire rate. Additionally, adjustments to weapon dispersion allow for longer bursts without sacrificing accuracy, and increased heavy ammo stack sizes aim to reduce the logistical burden on players in the field.

The Weapon Durability Controversy

The most polarizing aspect of the update is the shift in weapon economy. Embark aims to address the disparity between aggressive PvP players and those who hoard weapons by forcing all users to contend with “weapon attrition.”

On the positive side, upgrading a weapon now automatically repairs 25% of its maximum durability, a change players have praised as a long-overdue quality-of-life improvement. However, this is offset by aggressive nerfs elsewhere. The average durability of world-spawned weapons has dropped from 50 to 30, and the cost of firing weapons has been restructured: legendary and epic weapons are now cheaper to fire, but common, uncommon, and rare weapons suffer from significantly faster durability loss.

The community reaction has been sharp. While many laud the patch as an “incredible” step forward for the game’s flow, others have criticized the durability changes as “fucking stupid,” arguing that the developers are merely trading one form of frustration for another. Embark has signaled that more changes are on the horizon, including a significant rework of the skill tree, as they continue to iterate on the game’s core systems.
