Neil Newbon, the acclaimed voice actor behind Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3, has joined the cast of the highly anticipated fantasy adventure Crimson Desert, describing the game as a massive experience where players must simply embrace the overwhelming volume of choices.

A Challenge of Choice
When asked about the sheer scale and density of Crimson Desert during an interview with Honest Game Trailers, Newbon—who voices the character Marni (HALL)—offered little sympathy for players feeling paralyzed by the game’s scope. “There are too many choices. You’re just going to have to deal with it,” he noted. “There is so much you can do in that game.”
During the discussion, his co-interviewee, Devora Wilde—who also worked alongside Newbon on Baldur’s Gate 3—questioned whether the game offers more player agency than Larian Studios’ RPG masterpiece. While Newbon avoided a direct quantitative comparison between the two titles, he emphasized the incredible density of content packed into the world of Pywel.

Why Crimson Desert Stands Out
“It’s the activities in the world that you can do,” Newbon explained. “There are so many things you can do and different playstyles. Yeah, it’s a really impressive game.”
The title stands as a significant technical and creative achievement. Exploring the world of Pywel reveals a variety of bizarre paths and unique encounters. The combat system, in particular, offers deep customization, allowing players to utilize unconventional tactics—such as manifesting tornadoes as a primary offensive maneuver—to overcome challenges.
A New Obsession for RPG Fans
Crimson Desert is designed to absorb players for hundreds of hours, filled with hidden secrets and “nooks and crannies” tucked away by developer Pearl Abyss. For those who have already exhausted their playthroughs of Baldur’s Gate 3 and are seeking a new time sink while awaiting Larian’s next project, this game serves as a compelling alternative—offering everything from deep exploration to the ability to physically stop moving trains.
In related news, the developers have recently acknowledged that combat frequency tended to dip as players progressed. To address this, a new patch has been implemented to introduce re-blockades and fresh rematch opportunities for 69 different bosses, ensuring the action remains constant throughout the journey.
