Valve has officially removed the game “PirateFi” from its Steam storefront after discovering the title contained malicious software, prompting the company to advise affected users to potentially reformat their operating systems.

Marketed as a “thrilling survival game set in a vibrant, low-poly world,” PirateFi offered both solo and multiplayer gameplay modes before its swift removal. Despite its short-lived presence on the platform, the game managed to accumulate 51 reviews, resulting in a surprisingly high 9/10 store rating, according to an archived version of its Steam page.
Valve’s Warning to Users
Valve took action to purge the game from its ecosystem this week following media reports regarding the security threat. In a direct communication sent to those who had already downloaded the file, the platform explicitly warned that users should “consider fully reformatting your operating system” to ensure all traces of the malware are eliminated.
