To navigate strict Chinese internet censorship, the mobile RPG Love and Deepspace is promoting its “Lingering Lust” event to 50 million users through creative stick figure animations and rhythmic word-play instead of explicit visuals.

Creative Workarounds for Strict Regulations
Developer Infold Games, based in Shanghai, launched the 5-Star Interactive Memory series on April 30. While international audiences received erotic animations, Chinese players were treated to region-specific trailers on the app RedNote. These videos utilize abstract symbols to imply intimacy: the character “water” undulates at the bottom of the screen, while the character for “you” pulses rhythmically against a symbol representing a “spring head.”
Players have interpreted these visual metaphors as a clever, albeit suggestive, workaround for local digital content regulations. The vignettes themselves, which serve both as narrative experiences and combat power-ups, take place in a steamy hot spring environment, fueling the “99% water content” warning issued by the developers.
The Global Marketing Strategy
Outside of China, the marketing approach takes a more direct route. On platforms like Twitter, Infold Games released animations featuring stick-figure versions of the character Xavier, depicting intimate moments that are marked as age-restricted by the platform. These clips serve as a promotional bridge to the fully rendered, high-fidelity 3D animations found within the game app itself, which are heavily saturated with bubbles and steam effects.
Redefining Adult Themes in Gaming
While some critics view the game’s shift toward softcore eroticism as unconventional for a gacha title—which often balances interior design and journaling mechanics with combat—others see it as a significant milestone in gaming. Love and Deepspace is specifically designed by and for women, challenging the industry standard where female sensuality is often exploited rather than centered.
By joining other titles like the WickedWhims mod for The Sims, Love and Deepspace positions itself as a medium that respects the mature desires of its audience. It treats its players as complex individuals who appreciate art that evokes genuine emotion, whether through high-end 3D graphics or simple, effective stick figure animations.
The game continues to expand its reach, recently recruiting voice actor Ben Starr—known for his work in Final Fantasy 16 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33—to join its growing cast of love interests.
