Warhorse Studios, the developer behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, has confirmed they are actively developing a new, large-scale immersive RPG while remaining tight-lipped about rumors linking them to a potential Lord of the Rings project.

The Mystery Behind the Next Project
Following reports earlier this year that Warhorse had been selected to develop a new RPG set within the Lord of the Rings universe, fans took the opportunity to press the developers for answers during a recent Reddit AMA. When asked about the studio’s future roadmap, content director Ondřej Bittner confirmed that the team is “hard at work on… something,” though he stopped short of revealing specific details beyond the fact that it is a “huge immersive RPG.”
Addressing the Lord of the Rings Rumors
The speculation regarding a Middle-earth title was met with a deflective but playful response from the studio. Community manager Tom Grey addressed the rumors directly, stating, “Obviously we can’t comment on future projects, at least not until we’re in the future (but if you have a time machine, please show us!).” While the studio refused to confirm or deny the claims, they made it clear that their focus remains firmly within the RPG genre.
Staying True to Their Roots
Warhorse emphasized that their next title will maintain the core identity that defined the Kingdom Come series. Bittner reiterated that the upcoming game will be “true to our colours—huge, story-driven and immersive.” Regarding the production cycle, he noted that the team is committed to delivering a product that is “rich with details” and, perhaps most importantly, “hopefully not so buggy.”
The official Warhorse Reddit account further reinforced this commitment, stating, “Like any good game studio, we’re working on a new game. We don’t want to stray far from what we know, so we’ll be sticking with RPGs for now!”
What Fans Can Expect
Given the success of their previous titles, it comes as no surprise that Warhorse is doubling down on the genre that put them on the map. While fans await concrete news on the potential Lord of the Rings collaboration, the prospect of another deep, detail-oriented RPG from the team is already generating significant interest. For now, enthusiasts of the franchise will have to settle for the existing fan-casting theories, such as actor Tom McKay—who portrays Henry in Kingdom Come—expressing interest in the role of Aragorn.
The studio also recently expressed sympathy for the “struggle for survival” faced by other developers in the industry, specifically referencing a GTA-inspired crime game from a Just Cause lead, noting that such development challenges “could easily have happened” to their own RPG projects.
