Tim Cain, the legendary co-creator of the original Fallout, has officially announced his intention to develop one final game before entering his second retirement from the RPG industry.

A Farewell to Content Creation
The revelation came during a special video commemorating the third anniversary of Cain’s YouTube channel. Reflecting on his journey as a creator, he noted that he is running out of new stories to share with his audience. “The channel is probably nearing the point where I see it being done,” Cain explained. “I think I’ve explained to you the game industry as much as I can. I’ve told all my stories, the fun ones and not so fun ones, and you’ve heard it all.”
The Final RPG Hurdle
While the prospect of his channel ending may sadden some fans, the highlight of his announcement was his future in game design. “I think I am going to make one more game before I retire again for the second time,” he mused, though he left the door slightly ajar by adding, “but who knows?”

A Storied Career in RPG Development
Cain’s career is a cornerstone of PC gaming history. After shipping the original Fallout at Interplay, he co-founded Troika Games, where he helped craft cult classics such as Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, The Temple of Elemental Evil, and the beloved Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines.
Following the closure of Troika in 2005, Cain moved on to work on the MMO WildStar before joining Obsidian Entertainment in 2011. There, he contributed as a programmer for Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny, and served as a co-director for The Outer Worlds.
What Lies Ahead at Obsidian?
Although Cain technically stepped back from full-time work at Obsidian following the release of The Outer Worlds, he remained a creative consultant for its sequel and has since returned to a full-time role at the studio. It is widely presumed that his “one more game” is currently in development at Obsidian, though he remains tight-lipped regarding the details.
Bound by a strict non-disclosure agreement (NDA), Cain offered a cryptic challenge to fans hoping to uncover his next project: “Don’t bother guessing; you’re not gonna guess right.” With that, speculation about a potential New Vegas 2 or other fan-favorite sequels may have to be put to rest for now.
