A Record-Breaking Runtime for State of Play

While the State of Play format is typically reserved for shorter updates, this week’s event breaks the mold. With a massive 60-minute duration, the presentation rivals the scope and depth usually associated with major PlayStation Showcase events, signaling significant announcements for the platform.

What to Expect: Third-Party Hits and First-Party Reveals

Although Sony has kept the specific lineup under wraps, the company confirmed that the broadcast will spotlight eye-catching third-party and indie titles headed to the PS5. Furthermore, viewers can expect the latest updates directly from the teams at PlayStation Studios.

Industry speculation is already swirling regarding potential appearances. Long-time partners like Capcom and Sega are prime candidates for the spotlight, with titles like Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Stranger than Heaven being notable absences from recent events. Square Enix is also a frequent presence, leaving fans hopeful for a long-awaited update on Kingdom Hearts 4, while Konami fans remain optimistic for a potential reveal of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 2.

PlayStation Studios: The First-Party Outlook

On the first-party front, there is high anticipation for updates on Marathon, Saros, and the highly anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine, all of which are currently slated for release this year.

The showcase could also finally pull back the curtain on what Bluepoint Games has been developing since joining the PlayStation family. Other potential appearances include Fairgame$, as well as a possible look at Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, especially given recent reports that Hideo Kojima has been actively working on new trailer edits.
