Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi has officially teased a new, combat-focused single-player minigame arriving this May, fueling speculation that the fan-favorite “Mercenaries” mode is making a comeback.
A Combat-Heavy Experience Incoming
In a recent interview with Denfaminico Gamer, Nakanishi addressed the upcoming free content. When asked about the nature of the minigame, he emphasized its focus on high-octane action. “For those who have cleared the main game and are thinking ‘I still haven’t done enough rampaging yet’ I think you might enjoy it and go ‘Whoa!!’, so please sharpen your tomahawk and wait,” Nakanishi stated.
Release Window and Golden Week Tease
While Capcom previously confirmed a May release window for the DLC, recent comments from producer Masato Kumazawa suggest players might get their hands on it sooner. Kumazawa noted that the minigame unlocks after finishing the main story, explicitly suggesting that Japan’s “Golden Week”—which runs from April 29 to May 6—is the perfect time to complete the campaign in preparation. This timeline hints that the content could potentially drop as early as next Thursday.
Why Fans Expect The Mercenaries
Nakanishi’s specific use of the word “rampaging,” paired with the confirmed combat-centric design, strongly points toward the return of the iconic Mercenaries mode. Given that the combat mechanics in Resident Evil Requiem are widely considered the best in the franchise to date, the prospect of an arcade-style survival mode is highly anticipated.
