Supergiant Games has officially praised a fan-made mod titled “Zagreus’ Journey,” which successfully ports the entirety of the original Hades into the engine of its sequel, Hades 2.
A Massive Fan-Made Undertaking
The mod, developed by NikkelM, brings every region, enemy, and boss from the first game into the world of Hades 2. Players can experience the original campaign while controlling Melinoe, the protagonist of the sequel. The project, which recently hit its 1.0 milestone, also introduces custom NPC encounters and additional content to bridge the two experiences.
Addressing potential concerns regarding development ethics, NikkelM confirmed: “This mod does not, and never will, use generative AI for any art, voice or music. All voicelines are from the original game, and art was custom created by talented community artist burn.”
Supergiant Games Reacts to the Project
The mod’s production value is high enough that it has been mistaken for official content. Impressed by the effort, the official Supergiant Games Twitter account shared the project, stating: “We’re blown away by this user-created mod for the PC version of Hades II, which lets you play through the original game’s encounters as Melinoe.”
Community Reception and Future Hopes
The reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with many fans admitting they initially mistook the mod’s trailer for an official announcement from the studio. Discussion threads are filled with players praising the quality, with some suggesting that Supergiant should collaborate with the creator to bring the content to consoles or release it as official DLC.
While the mod remains a PC-exclusive experience, its existence highlights the passion of the Hades community. Meanwhile, Supergiant Games has confirmed they are currently hiring for their next project following the success of both roguelike titles, though fans remain divided on whether they desire a third installment in the series.
