Slavic Magic, the developer behind the hit city builder Manor Lords, has officially ended a months-long silence by launching a new beta update that introduces significant AI town improvements and a more streamlined development roadmap.
A New Strategy for Development
The update follows a period of radio silence since the game’s July development blog. Grzegorz ‘Greg’ Styczeń, the solo developer turned studio head, issued an apology for the lack of communication, attributing the delay to the challenges of scaling his team.
“I am rethinking what went wrong to ensure it won’t happen again,” Styczeń stated. “I focused on expanding the developer team and tackled way too many issues at once.” He explained that managing a growing team while navigating a codebase that was originally built as a solo project created a “graveyard” of discarded features and alignment challenges.
Moving forward, Styczeń intends to shift the development cadence toward smaller, more frequent updates rather than attempting massive, infrequent rollouts.
What’s Inside the New Beta
The latest beta patch is packed with substantial changes aimed at deepening the game’s mechanics. Key highlights include:
- AI Town Enhancements: While AI-controlled leaders cannot yet launch direct attacks, their townships now feature more natural, polished layouts and behaviors.
- Thematic Progression: The progression system has been overhauled to make player choices feel more impactful and nuanced rather than binary.
- Expanded Systems: The game now offers a greater variety of population types, more granular resource management, and improved tools for tracking economic growth.
- Quality of Life: A wide range of general improvements has been implemented to refine the user experience across the board.
This update serves as a foundation for future development, signaling a renewed focus on consistent growth for the project. With these improvements, Manor Lords continues to evolve as a standout title in the strategy genre, promising more regular content drops for its dedicated player base in the coming months.
