Dying Light franchise director Tymon Smektała has officially stepped down from his role at developer Techland after an impactful 13-year tenure, marking a significant leadership shift for the popular zombie survival series.

A Legacy of Survival
Smektała announced his departure via his official Twitter account, stating, “After years with Dying Light, I’m moving into a new chapter. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m proud of what we’ve built.” In his farewell message, he expressed deep gratitude toward the development and publishing teams, as well as the passionate Dying Light community that has supported the franchise over the last decade.
According to his professional history, Smektała joined Techland in 2013 as a game designer during the early development phases of the original Dying Light. He steadily climbed the ranks, eventually assuming the position of franchise director in 2022.
The Future of the Dying Light Franchise
Regarding the path forward for the series, Smektała remains optimistic about the transition. “The franchise is in great hands, and I’m excited to see it grow even further, and I can’t wait to experience its next chapter as a player. I’ll always root for Dying Light!” he noted.
While official details on the next major installment remain under wraps, the series has maintained momentum following the release of Dying Light: The Beast last year and the recent addition of the “Restored Land” persistent survival mode. Industry speculation suggests that a full-scale third entry is likely in active development.
Reflecting on Techland’s Post-Launch Support
A defining characteristic of the Dying Light series has been Techland’s long-term commitment to its titles, consistently providing updates years after initial release. As the studio moves into this new era of leadership, there is a clear opportunity for the team to refine the franchise’s direction. Fans remain hopeful that future iterations will address recurring community feedback, specifically regarding gameplay mechanics and the physics systems that defined the original experience.
