Blizzard has officially removed the recently added auto-spawn exit portals in Diablo 4 following widespread player backlash, as the feature was causing users to accidentally abandon valuable loot and endgame rewards.

A Well-Intentioned Quality-of-Life Update Backfires
The change comes as the primary highlight of the latest Diablo 4 hotfix. “Finishing a pit or tower run no longer spawns a portal to exit from,” the patch notes confirm. Blizzard admitted that while the portals were intended to improve quality-of-life by streamlining dungeon exits, the execution “missed the mark.”
Although the portals were designed to offer a quick escape, they frequently spawned directly on top of high-value treasure. Because these portals lacked a confirmation prompt, a single misclick often resulted in players being teleported out of the dungeon before they could secure their hard-earned rewards, effectively locking them out of their own loot.

Player Frustration Mounts Over Forced Mechanics
The community backlash was swift, as players pointed out that they already possessed the ability to create their own portals manually. By forcing an automated portal, Blizzard inadvertently created an inconvenient obstacle that hindered gameplay rather than helping it.
One frustrated player on Reddit questioned the design choice, noting that the portals were causing players to forfeit unspent glyph points and leave loot scattered on the floor. Other users echoed these sentiments on the official Diablo 4 forums, highlighting instances where they were unable to upgrade their glyphs or collect gear because they had been forcibly removed from the instance.
Future Improvements Needed
While Blizzard’s intent to reduce friction for players was clear, the implementation proved to be a significant disruption. Suggestions from the community include adding toggle options for such features or implementing proximity detection to ensure portals do not spawn near valuable items. For now, the controversial portals have been removed from the game, returning the dungeon exit process to its previous state.
