While Apple has long maintained its subscription-based Arcade service—offering access to titles like the cult-classic Stardew Valley—it is now moving beyond distribution. According to a report by Digital Trends, the tech giant has officially acquired RAC7, the studio behind the popular Apple Arcade hit Sneaky Sasquatch. This marks Apple’s first foray into internal game development, signaling a shift toward a more integrated content strategy.
Challenging Industry Titans in Gaming
Apple’s intensified focus on gaming positions it alongside other major tech players diversifying into the space. Most notably, Netflix began its own aggressive expansion in 2021 by acquiring multiple game studios to bolster its Netflix Games platform, which offers cloud-based mobile gaming to its existing subscriber base.
Inside the Upcoming iOS 19 Gaming App
Reports from Bloomberg and 9to5Mac have confirmed that Apple is building a dedicated gaming app set to debut with iOS 19. This new hub is expected to replace the current Game Center, serving as a centralized destination for Apple Arcade content, leaderboards, personalized recommendations, and community challenges.
Beyond standard gaming features, the app is rumored to include deep integration with iMessage and FaceTime. These social hooks are designed to streamline the experience of remote multiplayer gaming, making it easier for users to connect and play directly through Apple’s communication ecosystem.
