Windrose developer Kraken Express has released a significant update addressing persistent connectivity issues by introducing a “Force Relay Connection” setting, alongside various performance fixes and gameplay content additions.

Prioritizing Connectivity Over Latency

The standout feature in this update is the new Force Relay Connection setting. Designed for players struggling to join friends’ games, this option routes connections through the game’s relay servers. While this trade-off results in higher ping compared to a standard P2P connection, it provides a stable alternative for players experiencing matchmaking failures. Note that this feature is not applicable to Direct IP connections.

This update follows a period of intense troubleshooting for the development team. Following the game’s launch, Kraken Express even reached out to ISP professionals to help diagnose the root causes of these connectivity hurdles. These efforts have clearly yielded results, leading to the current suite of stability improvements.

Quality of Life and Combat Tweaks

Beyond network stability, the patch includes a variety of performance fixes and minor content additions. Players focused on base building will now find 40 new triangles available for crafting roofs. Audio-visual immersion has also been addressed with a three-minute extension to the bonfire ambience.

Combat adjustments have also been implemented to balance encounters. Specifically, the Alpha Wolf’s bleed effect now triggers at the conclusion of a grapple, and bleed damage is paused while a player is being grappled. These changes are intended to provide a fairer experience when facing canine enemies.

Kraken Express has previously stated that the open-world pirate survival game will not receive a major content update for at least six months, as the studio remains dedicated to refining the current experience and resolving ongoing technical issues.
