Indie Hit Kabuto Park Hits 1,000+ Perfect Steam Reviews

The developers behind the cozy management hit Minami Lane have achieved a rare milestone with their latest release, Kabuto Park, which has amassed over 1,000 overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam since its launch last month.

A Follow-Up Success Story

Following the significant success of Minami Lane—a game celebrated for its warm art style and charming, condensed management gameplay—co-developers ‘Doot’ and ‘Zakku’ returned with Kabuto Park. The new title, an adorable bug-collecting experience, has resonated deeply with the gaming community, maintaining a near-perfect approval rating.

“Completely Insane”: The Developer Reaction

Doot expressed genuine shock at the game’s reception last week. Sharing a screenshot of the title’s initial 590 reviews, all of which were positive, Doot tweeted: “This is completely insane. I didn’t even think that was possible? OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE with 100% POSITIVE REVIEWS?!”

Achieving a 100% positive rating is an exceptionally rare feat on Steam, given the subjective nature of gaming preferences. While the rating has since settled at a still-impressive 99% with over 1,000 reviews, the fact that the game maintained a perfect score for so long remains a remarkable accomplishment for the indie duo.

A Personal Creative Journey

“With Kabuto Park, I wanted to do something quite personal,” Doot noted regarding the development process. “Every game you make is like putting a part of yourself out there; it’s terrifying but so rewarding when people react as you do. I cried several times since release and feel like I’m about to do it again right now.”

Gameplay: Pokémon Meets Side-Scrolling Charm

The game invites players to “catch the cutest bugs, train them, and win the Summer Beetle Battles Championship.” The gameplay loop focuses on a tiny bug-collection mechanic where players upgrade their equipment to discover rarer, stronger, and shinier companions. Effectively, it functions as a charming side-scrolling take on monster-battling RPGs, offering a unique and whimsical experience for fans of the genre.
