Valve co-founder Gabe Newell has made a rare public appearance in an unexpected promotional video for the Leviathan mega-yacht, showcasing his life as a luxury yacht enthusiast.

A Surprise Cameo on the High Seas
Newell makes brief appearances throughout the promotional video for Oceanco’s Leviathan yacht. At 1:35, he is seen preparing for a scuba dive, which is reportedly part of his daily routine. He reappears at 2:58, laughing alongside other yacht enthusiasts. The video also features a drawing of Newell with a dragon, accompanied by a caption that reads, “Thank you Gabe!!”

The Steam Community Reacts
The internet was quick to notice Newell’s involvement, leading to a massive spike in views for the Oceanco video compared to the company’s usual content. The comment section has become a hub for Valve fans, with users joking about “another 10 yachts for Gabe” and analyzing the thumbnail for signs of the Steam boss.
Speculation has also reignited regarding Newell’s own mega-ship, which was announced last year. That project is expected to integrate deep-sea mapping technology, submersible vehicles, and a dedicated helideck.
Inside the Leviathan Mega-Yacht
While fans are focused on Newell, the video itself is a deep dive into the “Leviathan,” a vessel marketed for its “revolutionary layout” and “ergonomic design.” It packs the amenities of a massive cruiseliner into a more concentrated, excessive space. Features include massage chairs, extravagant buffets, basketball courts, and an abundance of LED panels.
Perhaps most notably for gamers, the video features a sequence around the two-minute mark where individuals are seen playing Counter-Strike 2. Some viewers have even speculated that a muffled voice heard during the gameplay segment might belong to Newell himself, commanding the team to “move out.”
